God sent me one of my biggest teachers 3 years ago, my son.
There is a saying that if you think you’re enlightened get into a relationship or spend time with your family because they will trigger your unresolved crap and show you where you are still unenlightened and I think in that quote they forgot to mention have children!
My son has triggered the hell out of me, brought the best out of me, the worst out of me and parts of my personality I didn’t even know existed but most of all has taught me what it means to have unconditional love for another being and a deeper love, gratitude and appreciation for all of life.
Though my journey as a single mother has not been an easy one, everyday I endeavour to practice a daily attitude of gratitude for everything and everyone in my life (including the arseholes cause they’re big teachers who bring lessons and blessings to your life as well).
Ever since my beautiful son was born and even when he was in the womb I would take him through an evening ritual of counting our blessings and reviewing all the things to be grateful for in our life.
Now that he can speak I enjoy listening to his evening attitude of gratitude and wanted to share with you a toddlers perspective of gratitude.
Every evening I ask him “ok bubs, what are you grateful for today?” And this is his response:
I am grateful for my –
Nanna
Grumps (Grandad)
T-Rex (His fav toy)
Bear (His fav tv show)
Boobies (this one cracks me up and he usually repeats this one several times in his nightly gratitude review)
Ashley + Jodie (the women who look after him at daycare)
Sam + Jonno (his uncles)
Aeroplanes and Helicopters
Annie (our neighbour who lets him water her flowers)
The car
Doggies
Cats
Our home
Alex, Lucy, Mateo, Kahlia (his friends)
The beach
My mamma
Lots of dinosaurs 🦕 (his current obsession)
I will then share with him what I feel grateful for as he goes to sleep and I find it’s a lovely way to end the day and sets a nice energy before going to sleep.
And if you have children I highly recommend teaching them a daily attitude of gratitude as it improves mental and emotional wellbeing.
Having gratitude and appreciation for everything and everyone in your life also raises your vibration into peace and prosperity and sends a powerful message to the universe to send you more wonderful things to be grateful and appreciative of.
